SHYFT, much like other IoT devices requires a power supply to function. The primary power source used by SHYFT is a battery. The battery is recharged by the connected power sources. SHYFT’s battery gets low and can die when there isn’t a power supply to charge the battery. This is typically experienced when there has been an extended period of power outage from the grid and generator.
Before the battery went dead, you may have noticed a ‘SHYFT Battery low’ notification. That looks like this
You should take the same following steps to charge a low or dead SHYFT battery
Connect SHYFT STS to a power source in Maintenance Position
- If the grid is available, set the STS to maintenance Position 2 - Mains.
- If the grid is not available, run the generator in maintenance Position 1 - Generator.
Remember to switch back to your smart system by
- Clicking the auto button on the generator
- Turning the knob on your STS to Smart Position - 3 a few hours after charging up SHYFT’s battery
If neither power sources are available and SHYFT’s battery was low but not dead, SHYFT will extend its battery life by going into sleep mode for a maximum of 4 minutes after which it checks back to see if the grid is available.
